Short Bio

Rector Lusofona U.

José A. Bragança de Miranda has a PhD in Communication Sciences from NOVA University Lisbon, with “agregação” in «Theory of Culture» from the same University. At present he is Tenured Professor at Lusófona University, researcher at Cicant and contributor to ICnova (NUL). He was director of ECATI – School of Communication Sciences, Architecture, Arts and Information Technologies of Lusófona University. He is a member of SOPCOM-Portuguese Association of Communication Sciences, of which he was co-founder and member of the executive board. He was curator of the project Ligações_Links_Liaisons for Porto2001 – European Capital of Culture, in collaboration with Maria Teresa Cruz, a project which resulted in the book Crítica das Ligações na Era da Técnica (Tropismos, 2002). He was Chairman of the panel on Communication Sciences of FCT, Chairman of the Jury for Documentary (2006) of Icam, member of the jury of the BESfoto prize, member of the jury of the Portuguese-Spanish Culture Prize. He has been teaching in the fields of Theory of Culture and Contemporary Arts, of Media Theory and Digital Aesthetics. Author of numerous essays and participations in a wide variety of areas of contemporary culture, from his body of work, the following books are mere highlights Analítica da Actualidade, Política e Modernidade, Traços. Ensaios sobre a Cultura Contemporânea, Teoria da Cultura, Síntese, Albuquerque Mendes ou o Ardor da Arte, Queda Sem Fim, Envios. His latest book, Constelações: Ensaios sobre Técnica e Cultura na Contemporaneidade, will be launched at Documenta in February 2023. Since December 2022 he holds the office of Rector at Lusófona University.
